Who Qualifies?

Individuals who have a current connection with the railroad and a permanent physical or mental condition that diesables them from working in their regular occupation and have at least twenty years of service or are age sixty are eligible for disability annuity through the railroad. 

What Should I Expect?

If you are planning to file a claim with the Railroad Retirement Board for a disability annuity you should obtain a copy of your job description from the railroad that you were employed with. In addition to the railroad's job description, you will need to write a statement including all of your duties for that job, even tasks that you only performed on occasion. 

You should also begin the process of collecting your medical records and medical opinions from your treatment providers. The Railroad Board will rely heavily upon your medical records to show the severity of your conditions and how they impact your ability to perform your job with the railroad.
